"Why Turkiye ?"
... was the question everyone asked when I booked my holiday.
"I don't know" was my reply.
I was travelling alone to a country that I'd never had thoughts of visiting before.
I had a basic idea of what to expect with regard to climate and culture - but that was about it really.
In next to no time, I had booked a small apartment to stay in and arranged my flight and that was that.
When the airplane touched down, I chatted to fellow travellers as we queued at the passport desk; I took a deep breath, sniffed the air and turned my face to the sun ...
... and then I felt it ...
...the most beautiful, fresh, cooling breeze caressed my face and then disappeared; the sun warmed my pale cheeks for a moment or two and then that playful breeze was back ...
As the queue moved steadily along, with every step I thought to myself ...
"Warm sunshine and a constant cooling breeze ... I like it."
I settled into my seat on the transfer bus from Bodrum airport to Altynkum ... accepted an ice cold bottle of water and some refreshing cologne from the driver and settled comfortably back for the hour's journey to Altynkum.
I didn't fall in love with Turkiye.
I didn't feel any overwhelming emotional impact.
I simply felt comfortable with the mixture of east and west, old and new, traditional and modern.
When I stepped off the bus there it was again ...
"Ahhhhh I like this ... there's that breeze again ... lovely ... "
Three days later I was buying an apartment!
Four days later I was signing the papers!
Five days later I was buying furniture for the apartment!
The Estate Agent accompanied me every step of the way so the whole process was an exciting one not a chore.
Three weeks later I was thinking ... "What have I done? I must be mad!"
One month later here I am, I still don't know if I'm mad or not but I have the answer now to that first question everyone asked me ...
"Why Turkiye?"
"Well ... because for me
Turkiye is where
East
SUCCESSFULLY
meets
West
and that really is
a beautiful state of mind."
It was THAT simple.
I INTEND THAT I AM ALWAYS ALIGNED WITH, OPEN TO, IN RECEIPT OF AND THANKFUL FOR -
THE GOOD STUFF!
I INTEND THIS FOR YOU TOO!
