WHAT’S HERE IN ALTYNKUM?
Well, the people for one thing. They are here. And they are what make Altynkum the lovely place that it is.
The locals are affable, friendly, hospitable and courteous and have a wonderful sense of natural humour.
The weather is here also. And wow! What a wonderful climate!
The beaches are here
too – in fact there are no less than3 beaches and numerous coves on the fantastic Aegean Coast where there is always a cool breeze and low humidity.
And there is also a new Marina and Golf Course under construction which are expected to be completed in 2009.
The apartment is situated on the ground floor of a block of 8 apartments and is surrounded on two sides by a gardened border and a tiled path; the pool is to the third side and is overlooked by the kitchen/dining area.
The apartment is fully furnished, air conditioned and mosquito netted.
And you don't have to go into Altynkum or Didim Town Centres to find the shops or cafes because there are several mini supermarkets just a 3 minute walk from the apartment where you can buy your everyday needs such as water, milk, butter, bread, cereals, biscuits, sweets, soap, washing powder etc.
I'm told that Altynkum was a small fishing village just 5 years ago with lots of unoccupied land ... now it's an up and coming holiday resort with many hotels and apartment complexes already built and under constructon.
As a result, the town centre is expanding and the shops and cafes are radiating outwards which is great news for those who've bought apartments on what used to be the outskirts of the town centre. The tourist trade is also bringing work for the local people.
The apartment is near the Aegean Coast and is a 5 minute stroll from First Beach and Altynkum Centre.
There are several little cafes spread out between the apartment and the town centre and beach where you can have breakfast on the way there or dinner on the way back.
There are plenty of shops, cool indoor market, cafes and restaurants, clubs and hotels; 3 or 4 major supermarkets including Carrefour and numerous mini supermarkets close by; car rental and travel/tour agents for booking day trips to Pamakkule, Ephesus, Temple of Apollo, Kos, and Scuba Diving and much, much more ...
You can catch a 10 minute bus ride or taxi to the larger town of Yenihisar where there is a wonderful open air Saturday Market which is not to be missed! Yenihisar is a lovely mix of old and new - you can shop until you drop, eat until you burst, or sit and watch the world go by with a cool drink and do none of the above ...
HEALTH BENEFITS
I must mention the health benefits here, particularly for those who suffer from asthma, respiratory and cardiac disease, and arthritis.
The most beautiful thing for me about Didim and Altinkum is its fabulous climate. It allows for plenty of sunshine on your bones but without the uncomfortable humidity found in other parts of the Med for example;
because in Altinkum there's always a cool breeze which comes from inland and which flows outwards to the sea.
Hence the very low humidity which makes such a difference to your comfort and enjoyment. Nearby Pamakkule is also said to be very beneficial for arthritis sufferers because of its mineral waters and is well worth a visit.
